Fitness Questions Answered!

Q: How Many calories are in a pound?
A:
3500!

Q: How many calories should I burn in one day to lose a pound a week
A: 500

Q: Is Cardio the best exercise?
A: Yes and No, Cardio is good for you BUT Muscle burns fat so you need to introduce Strength training/weight lifting into your routine.  For instance you can do cardio 2-3x's a week and strength train 3-4x's a week and rest on day 7!

Q: Is it better to go to a gym or workout at home.
A: I prefer Home because this way I save money and at home working out to DVD is like having a personal trainer in your house!

Q: What is BMR and TDEE
A:
Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the number of calories that your body burns on a daily basis to maintain your lean body mass.  Find out how to calculate it here.

TDEE: (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) The TDEE calculator calculates your BMR and your Lifestyle and puts those numbers together. This number is what you need if you are to MAINTAIN your weight. If you are trying to lose weight, than you want to lower this number. Remember, there are 3500 calories in 1 lb. If you want to lose 1 lb, then you need to reduce your calories by an average of 3500k cal. Find out that calculation here

Know with this knowledge what you want to do is eat ABOVE your BMR and below 10% of your TDEE.  NEVER eat BELOW your BMR. You will not lose weight this way.  If you want to lose a pound of fat a week you need to reduce your daily calorie intake by 500 (still staying above your BMR and below your TDEE)

Here is my example:

My BMR is 1472 and My TDEE is 2528
So basically I eat around 1500 to 1800 calories a day also making sure I work out 6 days a week. See my Food & Exercise Diary here on My Fitness Pal.
