Understanding "CARBS"

Understanding the difference between Complex Carbs and Simple Carbs…

I often hear people say that they need to cut down on carbs and eat more fruits and veggies… Fruits & Veggies ARE Carbs. They are Complex Carbs and NOT simple Carbs. Simple carbs are would be cereal, crackers, pasta, white rice, breads, etc….another words processed foods.

Simple Carbs are Fast absorbing and Complex Carbs are Slow absorbing…meaning, the slower the better, hence the name complex. It takes longer for the body to process them so they have less change on turning into body fat.

Simple Carbs are Highly Addictive, that is why so many people have such a difficult time reducing the amount of simple carbs they eat. As you try to reduce and or cut back or even totally remove them from your daily food intake, you will get the same results as if they were trying to quit smoking or drinking alcohol. Headaches, irritability are some of the symptoms you may experience.

Once you have made up your mind to begin the process of removing them from your daily food intake, begin reducing them slowing. For example, don’t have any after 5pm, then after several days don’t have any after noon time. After a week or two try not to eat any every day, but every other day until you feel you can cut them out or eat them occasionally.
